A View on Life
Pera
ba kayo? …bakit?... Wala

corny man maam… waley…
How
often do we react that way: when things don’t live up to our expectations… Many
of us give up easily because we are not getting our way. We fail to realize,
that maybe, God has bigger and better plan for us.
One
of my favourite speeches nowadays is one by Jim Carrey. I’ll be quoting him a
lot today.
I
thought of discussing something about investment. But then I changed my mind.
You will have a lot of chances to discuss that anyway. I think it would be
better to talk about life. Boring? Maybe so… but give it a chance… because life
is a lot like investment.
Life,
just like investment, needs a leap of faith. Often, people are afraid to make an
investment because of fear. According to Jim Carrey, we make a lot of decisions
because of fear, and then call it practicality. Most of the time, we stay in
our comfort zones because we feel that we are not good enough. But you have to
realize that you can do whatever you want and that you are capable of making
your dreams come true. Do you believe so? Yes!
Most
of the time we say yes when something beneficial happens to us. Right? Yes! But
very few of us are willing to let go of what we already have for something
greater. Just like investment, we are reluctant to give up our hard earned
money for higher return. Why? because of fear. We fear that what we aspire for
may not be worth our sacrifices. What if we give up our leisure time to study
for the upcoming exam and still end up failing?
But
instead of asking, what if we fail, let’s start asking, what if we succeed?
What if our hard work will pay off? Doesn’t that sound much better?
But
what if we fail? Is failing all that bad? Jim Carrey doesn’t think so.
According to him, you can fail at something you don't love so you
can have a chance to succeed at something you love. Life is full of second
chances… it is a matter of perspective.
Just like investment, life is full of
risks. You can end up happy with the decision you make or end up in pain
because of your choices. And that is what life is all about. Although it is
uncertain, you can find comfort in believing that God gave you the capacity to
bear all things. And when it seems difficult, remember, you have a direct line
to God; that is prayer.
Before I end this, let me share to
you one of my favorite lines from Carrey’s speech. He said, “the effect you
have on others is the most valuable currency there is”.
Good afternoon, and thank you for
having me.
